I'm Gonna Write A LOT Of Things In This Blog So Bear With Me

So....... I only made it just past Chapter One, and in the beginning, it was pretty slow. Not a bad slow, just slow..... nothing really happening.... lets just slowly introduced our characters....... tells us about the town.... and then BAM!!!!! That last part of the chapter ( i'm not going to say what it is; if you read up to that point you know what i'm talking about) was a complete OMG. I was nto expecting that to happen. And first you think "wow, this guy is going to be the all star of the book, the classic good guy", and then you find out. And when you find out you think "you are sick and disgusting _________ ( fill in the blank with said character's name). Let's just say, by the end of Chapter One, things get intersting. Its like watching a soap opera.... or Grey's Anatomy when they shock you with something huge at the end... and then they say " To Be Continued". Its like " Stay Tuned Next Week for Chapter 2 of Montana 1948".
Anywho.... concerning the previous paragraph, I'm going to foreshadow a bit. The information we learn I think foreshadows that nothing good is going to show up in the next chapter/throughout the book. We are dealing with some serious SCANDAL!!! I personally think Marie's story is going to be the most tragic and difficult. The situation that Marie is in.... nothing fabulous can come from it. And now that this whole event could get bigger and bigger, I'm thinking only the worst will happen. The situation will definitely affect David a great deal because as he says, he has a very close relationship wiht her. Also, I believe that along with what's going on, something drastic will happen along with it. The situation reminds me of To Kill A Mockingbird. First their's the rape of Mayella and the whole trial.... and then Scout and Jem are attacked. I think maybe not a exact situation like that will happen, but maybe something similar.
Moving on to other things, I feel that this book is also going to be similar to our last book. In Catcher, Holden journey throughout the novel was hime trying to mature and find himself. I think David's journey will be a trying one, but also one that will change him and make him grow up. As of now, David is seeing and hearing things that he doesn't understand all the time and things he has never heard before. I think that the plot of the novel will help David transform from a child to a young adult, instead of Holden from a young adult to a adult. Also, as I'm typing this, I noticed that in some respects, both Holden and David are social outcasts. Whereas Holden is critical and doesn't understand people, David doesn't know how to interact with others. These things contribute to why they are social outcasts.
And now for the final part (yes, this really is the end), the difficulties of Wes. I truly feel sorry for the guy. First, he can't be a lawyer, his dream job, because his father wants him to be the sherriff- apparently he has no say in the sitaution. Second, he is less loved by his own FATHER!! That is terrible! When his father refers to Frank as "my son" and Wes leaves... so sad. Third, his brother Frank is the all star; good looking, athletic, successful.... thats not easy to be second to that. Also, the situation they have found themselves in truly makes Wes's life a little more challenging..... And that's alll. Phew!

meg,

i must say that the beginning went rather slow, but im not sure is i would consider it bad or good, i guess mediocre... I mean some parts, as the reader, I could have survived without, but some of it gave the reader personal insight of the setting and what David thinks of his father and mother and other relatives...btw megan, nice connections to Grey's and Catcher!!!!

wait.. im not done... chris said that same thing as you how David's grandfather does not love Wes as much as Frank... to some degree it is correct, but you cannot say that... you even said it yourself that Wes' father wants him to be sheriff-- HELLO! if he did not love him, why would he offer his position to his Wes, why not Frank then?????? If he has a favorite son, then wouldn't he want the legacy to be continued with the son he supposively (i do not think this is a word, but i will use it anyway) loves more? i do not know... a little confusing here... im so interested to continue on with the book... as you said "Stay Tuned Next Week for Chapter 2"

have fun reading... you know it will be fun....

megan-
i feel so bad for marie! its like in the book "speak" where the girl that was raped couldnt say anything because she didnt think anyone would believe her (bc i think she was a girl and the guy that raped her was the popular guy, so everyone would side with him) its kind of the same. Frank is a likeable guy thats very "charming" and, as you said, would seem to be "the classic good guy" but then all of a sudden theres a scandal like this! like "speak" the girl refuses to tell people what happened, and everyone assumes shes jsut the "freak". this also relates to marie because she refuses to go to a doctor because everyone assumes that she is "doctor-phobic". but when the truth comes out, we find out who her true friends are.
oh and if you havent read the book "speak" then probably all of this made no sense.. so i hope you read it lol- i just saw a connection that i tried to make.. :)
